The Education Service Commission (ESC), under the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES), has shortlisted nearly 1,000 teachers and non-teaching staff for jobs under the Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers Program (UGIFT).

The nearly 1,000 teachers and non-teaching staff (exactly 962 according to a count done by The Pearl Times), were picked from thousands who did aptitude tests for the same jobs a few weeks ago.

These had applied for the same jobs towards the end of last year and the process of recruitment is still ongoing for Bukedi and other regions.

The schools for which the Education Service Commission is hiring teachers and non-teaching staff in Bukedi region include: Akadot Seed SS in Pallisa District, Iyolwa Seed SS in Tororo District, Mugiti Seed SS in Budaka District, and Muhula Seed SS in Butaleja District.

Others are: Nansanga Seed SS in Budaka District, Sikuda Seed SS in Busia District, St Joseph SopSop in Tororo District, and St John’s Seed SS Kidika in Kibuku District.

Each of these schools will have a headteacher, a deputy headteacher, teachers for both graduate and diploma levels (education officer and assistant education officer), a bursar, an enrolled nurse, a stenographer secretary, a laboratory assistant and a library attendant.

Each school gets about 30 staff, both teaching and non teaching staff. All of these are being recruited by the Education Service Commission.

According to a count done by The Pearl Times, for Akadot Seed SS Pallisa, a total of 126 candidates were shortlisted; for Iyolwa Seed SS Tororo, 101 were shortlisted; for Mugiti Seed SS Budaka,  135 were shortlisted; while for Muhula Seed SS Butaleja, only 93 candidates were shortlisted.

For Nansanga Seed SS Budaka, up to 132 teachers and non-teaching staff were shortlisted; for Sikuda Seed SS Busia, up to 122 candidates were shortlisted; for St Joseph SopSop Tororo, up to 114 teachers and non teaching staff were shortlisted; while for St John’s Seed SS Kidika Kibuku, the number stands at 139.

The names of shortlisted candidates are shared per school below. Please note that the lists also include dates and venues:

  1. List for Mugiti Seed SS Budaka
  2. List for Iyolwa Seed SS Tororo 
  3. List for Akadot Seed SS Pallisa
  4. List for St Joseph SopSop Tororo
  5. List for St John’s Seed SS Kidika Kibuku 
  6. List for Sikuda Seed SS Busia 
  7. List for Nansanga Seed SS Budaka
  8. List for Muhula Seed SS Butaleja

Meanwhile, the Education Service Commission has completed the recruitment exercise for seed schools in Buganda and West Nile.

Also, as the start of second term nears, there is a looming strike by arts teachers of secondary schools. Museveni’s government says there is no money to increase arts teachers, who the president has previously told that ‘Shakespeare’s plays do not heal sick people.’ (See Details Here and There).
