HUNTING FOR HIDDEN BOXES OF MONEY: Security Operatives Comb Anita Among’s Bukedea Mansion and Her Parents’ Home

The ongoing investigations surrounding outgoing Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among shifted focus from Kampala and Wakiso as security operatives on Friday carried out another high-profile search operation at her residence in Bukedea district before proceeding to her parents’ home several kilometres away. The operatives, sources told The Pearl Times, were looking for boxes of money that were suspected to have been ferried to the homes before the raids began days ago.

The operation, which lasted for several hours, unfolded at Among’s sprawling residence located in Aput village, Aerere parish in Kamutur sub-county. Witnesses said heavily armed security personnel maintained tight control around the premises throughout the exercise as journalists, residents and curious onlookers gathered at a distance to follow developments.

After concluding the lengthy search at the Bukedea mansion, the convoy of security vehicles later drove to Apopong village, Apopong parish in Kidongole sub-county, where Among’s parents reside.

The home is located about 20 kilometres from the Speaker’s residence.

Friday’s search operation is part of ongoing investigations into allegations of corruption and abuse of office involving the embattled outgoing Speaker. The investigations have in recent days attracted widespread public attention, making the case one of the most closely watched political probes in Uganda.

Since last Saturday, security investigators have reportedly conducted multiple coordinated searches at several properties linked to Among in Kampala and Wakiso districts, including at Nakasero and in Kigo.

During those earlier operations, investigators reportedly recovered luxury vehicles and other unidentified items. Security teams have also searched offices linked to the outgoing Speaker as investigators intensify the probe.

Among’s lawyer, Caleb Alaka, was present during the search at the Bukedea residence.

By the time the lawyer arrived at about 11:30 am, a convoy comprising seven security vehicles had already stationed itself outside the compound for nearly two hours.

Security officers guarded the area closely while access to the premises remained heavily restricted.

The compound itself remained sealed behind tall perimeter walls and heavily guarded gates as operatives carried out activities away from public view.

Outside the residence, tension and curiosity continued to build among local residents and journalists who had camped near the property hoping to obtain updates from the authorities.

Police officers attached to the South Kyoga region later joined the operation, further reinforcing security around the area as the search continued deep into the afternoon.

Despite the high-profile nature of the exercise, none of the security officials addressed journalists gathered outside the residence. Authorities also did not disclose whether any items had been recovered from the Bukedea property during the operation.

Hours later, the convoy exited the residence at speed, with journalists trailing the vehicles to what was later confirmed to be the home of Among’s parents in Apopong village.
