After days of alleged Anita Among ‘leaked audios exposing Museveni,’ Parliament has spoken out. Anita Among is the Speaker of Parliament and the Bukedea District Woman MP.

Audios in which a woman sounding like Anita Among is heard punching holes into an apology by President Yoweri Museveni.

In the audios that were widely shared online, some of which The Pearl Times has listened to, a woman is heard saying that Museveni should also apologize to Teso and Karamoja, among other regions for the impoverishment and some of the insecurity that previously dogged northern and eastern Uganda.

But Parliament has come out to dismiss the said ‘Anita Among ‘leaked audios exposing Museveni’ as fake.

“We have been made aware of an audio clip circulating on social media, attributed to the Rt Hon. Speaker Anita Among. The clip is fake and unfounded,” Parliament of Uganda said in a short statement.

“We urge the public to disregard this fake content aimed to spread h@te and misinformation.”

Director of Communication and Public Affairs at Parliament of Uganda, Chris Obore, has claimed the audios are being sponsored by Anita Among’s opponent.

“The opponents are in panic and have resorted to smear campaign. They are attempting to antagonise AAA [Anita Annet Among] with NRM chairman but the voice betrays them,” noted Obore.

“The sponsor is well known for intrigue while AAA is known for great mobilisation.”

Among has expressed her intention to run for the position of second national vice chairperson of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Central Executive Committee (CEC), currently held by former speaker Rebecca Kadaga.

Some supporters of Anita Among like academic Dr Lawrence Muganga of Victoria University have called for responsible use of artificial intelligence.

“The audio is fabricated. Please disregard it in its entirety.

Ladies and gentlemen, the circulating audio clearly demonstrates how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be misused by individuals with bad intentions to deceive, manipulate, and spread falsehoods. As a supporter of the safe and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence, I have checked the audio using available AI detection tools, and all results confirm that the audio is fake.

It appears that malicious actors have trained AI systems to imitate the voice of the Rt. Hon. Speaker Anita Among and have used it to create false and h@teful content.

This is not just a misuse of technology; it is a deliberate act of character assassination.

To our leaders and policymakers: the time to act is now. Uganda must embrace Artificial Intelligence and related technologies to drive national development. At the same time, we must urgently establish clear regulations, ethical guidelines, and safeguards to prevent the harmful use of these  innovations.

Artificial Intelligence should be a tool for good. It should help, support, and bring positive change, not be used to divide people or spread lies.

To the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, please stay strong. Many of us stand with you and strongly condemn this attack. Your voice and leadership are needed now more than ever to help build national systems that ensure AI benefits Uganda rather than harms it.” – Dr Lawrence Muganga.

Regarding, Museveni’s apology – the subject of now dismissed audios – President Museveni and first lady Janet Museveni came out and offered a joint apology to Buganda and Uganda during a conference hosted by their daughter Pastor Patience Rwabwogo.

But some Ugandans rejected the apology, demanding that Museveni instead peacefully hands over power if he is serious with his apology, as reported Here.

Meanwhile, Janet Museveni has talked of ‘tears in my eyes,’ a ‘significant transition’ and a ‘defining moment’ for Uganda, in a rare hint of succession politics within the first family, as reported Here.
