Muhoozi Reportedly ‘Reconciles’ with Odrek Rwabwogo

First son and Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has reportedly reconciled with his brother-in-law Odrek Rwabwogo.

Muhoozi and Rwabwogo have previously been in some kind of war of words, renewed in recent weeks. The bitter exchanges were (mis)interpreted by some as relating to their alleged presidential ambitions.

For example, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba claimed that Odrek Rwabwogo was the biggest thief in Uganda. After this allegation, supporters of Odrek Rwabwogo, or Odrek Rwabwogo disciples as they call themselves, came out to blast the first son.

Rwabwogo also came out and responded, making it clear that he valued his family and service to nation. He is the husband to Pastor Patience Rwabwogo, Museveni’s daughter. Pastor Patience – Muhoozi’s sister – is in a way the priestess of the Museveni family.

As the war of words between Muhoozi and Odrek Rwabwogo raged on – amplified by their supporters – Museveni and other members of the first family were deeply concerned.

Muhoozi’s posts (tweets) on microblogging site X (formerly Twitter) have for years troubled Museveni, a former bush war leader turned president. Even his colleague presidents knew. At the first son’s 2022 birthday party, Rwandan president Paul Kagame offered to edit Muhoozi’s tweets.

“The tweet where Gen Muhoozi labelled Mr Odrek Rwabwogo the biggest thief, and later deleted, made the president more concerned,” a source told The Pearl Times on condition of anonymity.

“H.E. moved to reconcile his two ‘sons’ with the help of Gen Salim Saleh who Gen Muhoozi trusts so much.”

In meetings that followed, sources further told The Pearl Times, Museveni made it clear that he wanted to see order restored in the first family, making it clear that Ugandans should be looking at them as role models in causing transformation instead of social media wars.

“That is why you saw the first son come out to announce that he would not be running for president in 2026. His presidential ambitions were believed to have been fueling social media divisions,” another source familiar with the developments said.

The two ‘brothers’ have been asked to forgive each other and desist from fueling any attacks against each other. It was in that spirit that Odrek Rwabwogo disowned, once again, a group that calls itself his disciples.

The group has been pushing for Odrek Rwabwogo’s presidential ambitions, prompting the first son to speak out on alleged intentions to succeed Museveni, his father in law. (See Details Here and There).

Last week, Muhoozi came out to make his big announcement on not running for president, endorsing his 80-year-old father for reelection, and saying no civilian will replace his father.

His big announcement has been criticized as an attack on the constitution and electoral democracy. But one of his supporters, a junior minister, has claimed that God had told Muhoozi he would be president in 2026 but has since changed His mind. (See Details Here and There).
