First Son-in-law Vs First Son Muhoozi Kainerugaba: NRM Faction Fronts Odrek Rwabwogo to Succeed Museveni in 2026

A group of ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) youths have come out to market another presidential project from the first family, and it seems that from the rumored first son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba (MK) Project, there is now the first son-in-law Odrek Rwabwogo Project.

Rwabwogo is a businessman who married President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s daughter Patience.

In 2015, Rwabwogo moved to uproot the NRM Vice Chairman for Western Uganda Maj Gen Matayo Kyaligonza from his seat in the leadership of the ruling party whose boss is his father-in-law Museveni.

But in a meeting that happened at State House Entebbe in September 2015, the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) rejected the first son-in-law’s candidature.

Now, exactly six years later, a group to steer the first-son-in-law’s project has started popularize his candidature a few months after the end of a bruising election.

The group comprises Musa B Rwamigoye, who calls himself the National Secretary for Mobilization and Publicity for the Odrek Rwabwogo Project; David Ahimbisibwe who says he is the National Media Coordinator; and National Coordinator Yosiya Mugaju.

This group of Odrek Rwabwogo activists previously campaigned for Museveni in the two previous presidential elections.

They are some of the founders of NRM TEAM THOROUGH.

In their previous pro-Museveni assignments, this were said to have been supported by now Minister Alice Kaboyo.

They are also said to have previously claimed that first lady Janet Museveni was their patron.

In 2016, their major assignment was to punch holes in Amama Mbabazi’s ability to be president while their 2021 target was singer-turned-politician Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine.

Now, with elections behind they have undertaken yet another uphill political task: popularizing the Odrek Rwabwogo Project.

They say Rwabwogo is best suited to succeed his father-in-law Museveni in 2026 and drive forward a 10-point program that includes respect of human rights, good governance and infrastructural development.
