Odrek Rwabwogo is in the news after his brother-in-law Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba labelled him the biggest thief in Uganda, making some argue that the label could be part of succession wars and the alleged Odrek Rwabwogo presidential ambitions.
Although Gen Muhoozi, the first son and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), deleted the X posts calling his brother-in-law the greatest thief, the post’s screenshots have continued to spread across the internet.
Gen Muhoozi has previously made clear his intentions to succeed his father as president in 2026, expressing frustration that Museveni was taking ‘forever’ to hand power over to him as it remains unclear whether Museveni intends to quit soon. (See Details Here and There).
Even his latest attack was made in comparison with the gravity of corruption allegations against Igara East MP Michael Mawanda Maranga, who is the director of mobilization for Muhoozi’s Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU).
PLU is the organization that Muhoozi is expected to use as a vehicle to campaign for the country’s top seat, which his father has held since 1986 when he took power following a five year-bush war that claimed hundreds of thousands of lives.
Muhoozi claimed that the reason Mawanda was in prison is because he was his great supporter in Bushenyi. (See Details Here).
For the alleged Odrek Rwabwogo presidential ambitions, a group of youths claiming to be his disciples (The Odrek Rwabwogo Disciples) seem to be encouraging him to throw his hat in the ring for the 2026 presidential election.
The group has been trying to shape the debate on Museveni’s succession (transition), which would become the first peaceful transition in post-independence Uganda.
The Odrek Rwabwogo Disciples have previously demanded that President Museveni’s ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Central Executive Committee (CEC) holds a special meeting to discuss the idea of a peaceful political transition. (Read full story Here).
But the Museveni son-in-law has previously distanced himself from presidential ambitions. Read Odrek Rwabwogo’s previous response about his alleged presidential ambitions HERE.
