For most courses or academic programs at Makerere University and its affiliate Makerere University Business School (Mubs) parents, guardians and students will be parting with millions of Shillings in tuition and functional fees – and of course other expenses like food and accommodation.
The office of the academic registrar of the university, Uganda’s largest and oldest higher learning institution, has already started receiving applications from prospective Ugandan, East African, and international students for the undergraduate programmes under the private sponsorship scheme for the 2025-2026 Academic Year for A level leavers only.
Makerere and Mubs are admitting students who had at least five (5) passes, or its equivalent in Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), and at least two (2) principal passes at Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) obtained at the same sitting.
Candidates with grades X, Y, Z, 7 and 9 of on their Uganda Certificate of Education papers are not eligible for admission to any of the over 160 academic programs or courses, according to the office of the academic registrar.
The over 160 programs in this report include day, afternoon, evening and external programs. “For day programmes only candidates who sat A’ Level in 2024, 2023 and 2022 are eligible to apply,” explained Prof Mukadasi Buyinza, the university’s academic registrar.
“For evening, afternoon, and external programmes, a candidate is not restricted on the year of sitting A’ Level.”
