The academic registrars of Uganda’s public universities have opened their gates to private admissions for the 2025-2026 academic year.
The public universities include Makerere University and its business school of MUBS, Gulu University, Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) Kabale University, Kyambogo University, Muni University, Soroti University, Mountains of the Moon University, and Busitema University.
Most of the public universities now require prospective students to apply online. Knowing how to navigate such processes that require mobile money transactions and an internet connection will help you navigate the application process smoothly.
Here we share the application calls for Makerere University, Kyambogo University, Kabale University and Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), showing guidelines and requirements for application.
MAKERERE UNIVERSITY
The Academic Registrar Makerere University invites applications from Ugandan, East African, and international applicants for the undergraduate programmes under the private sponsorship scheme for the 2025/2026 Academic Year for ‘A’ Level Leavers Only.
Each applicant should:
Have the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) with at least five (5) passes, or its equivalent and at least two (2) principal passes at Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) obtained at the same sitting. For day programmes only candidates who sat A’ Level in 2024, 2023 and 2022 are eligible to apply. For evening, afternoon, and external programmes, a candidate is not restricted on the year of sitting A’ Level. Detailed information on the weighting system can be accessed by following this link.
Other relevant information can be obtained from UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSIONS OFFICE, LEVEL 3, SENATE BUILDING OR CAN BE found on the University Website https://www[dot]mak[dot]ac[dot]ug. Effective Wednesday 16th April 2025.
A non-refundable application fee of shs.50,000/= for Ugandans, East African and S. Sudan applicants or $75 or equivalent for internationals plus bank charges should be paid in any of the banks used by Uganda Revenue Authority.
Candidates who hold grades X, Y, Z, 7 and 9 of ‘O’Level results should not apply because they are not eligible for admission. Below are the available courses including respective fees structure.
How to submit your application
Applicants should access the Institution’s Admissions URL https://apply[dot]mak[dot]ac[dot]ug/
Sign up by clicking on the REGISTER NOW. Use your full name, e-mail and Mobile No. Please note that your name must be similar to the one on your supporting academic documents for your application to be considered valid.
A password will be sent to you on your mobile phone and email.
The system will prompt you to change the password to the one you can easily remember.
To fill an application form, click on the APPLY NOW button displayed on the appropriate running scheme.
Obtain a payment reference number by clicking on “Pay for Form” Button
Make a payment at any of the banks used by Uganda Revenue Authority
Mobile Money Payment Steps:
Dial *272*6# on either MTN or Airtel
Select option 3-Admission
Select option 3-Pay Fees
Enter reference number obtained from Application portal
Details of Application form will be confirmed
Enter PIN to confirm payment
The closing date for receiving applications to undergraduate programmes shall be Tuesday 20th May 2025.
Warning
Applicants are strongly warned against presenting forged or other people’s academic documents to support their applications for admission. The consequences, if discovered, are very grave indeed.
Do not buy any other documents not originating from the Academic Registrar’s Office. Those who buy them do so at their own risk.
The Academic Registrar has not appointed any agent to act on his behalf to solicit for additional funds other than the application fee stated above.
Applicants are advised to use the right programme names and codes. the university will not be responsible for any wrong information entered in the system by applicants.
KYAMBOGO UNIVERSITY CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: O’ AND A’ LEVEL DIRECT ENTRY SCHEME 2025/2026
The Academic Registrar, Kyambogo University, invites Online Applications for private admission on the Direct Entry Scheme/A-Level only for the 2025/2026 Academic Year.
The application forms can be accessed on the link https://apply[dot]kyu[dot]ac[dot]ug. On submitting the application form, print out a pay-in slip and pay a non-refundable fee of Shs. 50,000/= for Ugandans and East African Nationals and Shs. 110,000/= for other International applicants, plus bank charges levied by any bank integrated with the Academic Information Management System (ACMIS). Applicants with qualifications from countries other than Uganda must submit photocopies of equated academic documents from UNEB to Kyambogo University, Admissions Office, Block 2 – Room 3, not later than the closing date for receiving applications. Applicants who may have difficulty filling out the online application form can receive help from the University’s Admissions Division.
The Deadline for receiving online application forms is Sunday, 25th May 2025 at Midnight.
General Admission Requirements
A candidate shall be deemed eligible for consideration for admission to any Bachelor’s Degree Programme at the University if he/she has:
The Ugandan Certificate of Education (O’ level) with a minimum of 5 Passes obtained at the same sitting, and At least 2 Principal Passes in Approved Principal Subjects obtained at the same sitting of the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education Examination (A-level).
A candidate shall be deemed eligible for consideration for admission to any Diploma Programme at the University if he/she has:
The Ugandan Certificate of Education (O’ level) with a minimum of 5 Passes obtained at the same sitting, and
At least 1 Principal Pass and 2 Subsidiary Passes in Approved Principal Subjects obtained at the same sitting of the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education Examination (A-level).

Candidates whose Ordinary and Advanced level results are of Grades “Y”, “Z”, “7” and “9” NEED NOT APPLY because they are not eligible for admission.
MBARARA UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (MUST) ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR ACADEMIC YEAR 2025/2026
The minimum requirements for admission to any Undergraduate degree programme are:
Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent with at least 5 passes.
Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or its equivalent with at least 2 principal passes.
Diploma holders must have passed with at least a credit or equivalent.
For Mature Age Entry Scheme, applicant Must be 25 years at the time of application and above and fulfill the Mature Age Entry Scheme requirements of Mbarara University of Science and Technology.
Holders of the Higher Education Access Certificate must have passed with a minimum CGPA of 3.60.
Diploma Programmes
The minimum requirements for admission to any Diploma programme are:
Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent with at least 5 passes
Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or its equivalent with at least 1 principal pass and two subsidiary passes.
Certificate holders must have passed with at least a credit or equivalent.
Holders of the Higher Education Access Certificate must have passed with a minimum of a Credit.
For Mature Age Entry Scheme, applicant Must be 25 years at the time of application and above and fulfill the Mature Age Entry Scheme requirements of Mbarara University of Science and Technology.
International Applicants
Additionally, for international applicants:
Applicants whose first language or medium of instruction is not English, must provide evidence from a recognized English language training institution that they have sufficient command of English language.
Applicants should have their documents equated by Uganda National Examinations Board for UCE and UACE documents and Uganda National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) for Diploma and Certificate documents.

KABALE UNIVERSITY
The Office of the Academic Registrar, Kabale University, invites applications for admission to various Postgraduate and Undergraduate programmes under the Private Sponsorship scheme for the Academic Year 2025/2026 (August Intake).
Kabale University offers a diverse range of academic programmes across its Schools, Faculties and Institutes. Prospective students can apply for PhD, Master’s, Bachelor’s and Diploma programmes in fields such as Medicine, Education, Agriculture, Science, Engineering, Computing, Economics, Tourism, Social Sciences, Law and Arts.
The University also invites applications from Diploma Holders seeking admission under the Government Sponsorship scheme for the 2025/2026 Academic Year.
Eligibility for Government Sponsorship (Diploma Entry Scheme)
Applicants must have:
At least a relevant second-class or credit diploma (or equivalent) from a recognized institution UACE (or equivalent) with at least one principal pass and two subsidiary passes obtained in the same sitting UCE (or equivalent) with at least five passes obtained in the same sitting Proof of Ugandan nationality (Birth Certificate, National ID, or Passport).
How to Apply

Sign up to create an application account
Log in and click “Apply Now”
Select the relevant Entry Scheme and click “Apply Now” again
Fill in the form and Submit
Pay the application fee (UGX 50,000 plus a bank charge) via Airtel Money, MTN Mobile Money, or Bank. A Zeepay Reference Number will be generated for those paying via the bank.
Bank Payment: A 13-digit Zeepay Reference Number will be generated. Present this number at any bank or bank agent to pay UGX 50,000 plus a bank charge.
Mobile Money Payment: Enter the phone number to be charged, then input your Mobile Money PIN to complete the transaction.

Collecting and Submitting the Application Form
If you can visit the university or one of its liaison offices, follow these steps:
- a) Obtain an Application Form, fill it out, and attach photocopies of your results slips and/or academic transcripts (if applicable).
- b) Submit the completed form at any of the following locations:
Kabale University Liaison Office – 3rd Floor, REEV House, Bombo Road (Opposite Total Petrol Station), Wandegeya, Kampala.
Kabale University Rukungiri Campus – Nyakiina, Rukungiri.
Kabale University, Kikungiri Campus – Kabale Municipality.
Paying the Application Fee
Open a web browser and visit payment[dot]kab[dot]ac[dot]ug.
Fill in your full name, contact phone number, and email address in the displayed form.
Click Continue, select Application Fee, and click Continue again.
An invoice will be generated with a 13-digit Zeepay Reference Number (found in the top right corner).
Present this Zeepay Reference Number at any bank or bank agent and pay a non-refundable application fee of UGX 50,000, plus a bank charge.
Note: ONLY applicants with official Transcripts/Result Slips and/or Certificates shall be considered for admission.
Applicants for postgraduate programmes and upgraders must attach certified copies of their Academic Transcripts and/or Certificates.
Applicants holding academic qualifications attained outside Uganda must also attach copies of equivalence obtained from the Uganda National Examinations Board, Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board, or Uganda National Council for Higher Education, as may be applicable.
Information on specific admission requirements for all programmes can be obtained from kab.ac.ug (under Study at KAB: Fees Structure), Academic Registrar’s Office, and Liaison Offices in Rukungiri and Kampala.
Use the programme codes (not full names of programmes) when filling in choices. The last day for submission of applications is 30th May 2025.
