The list showing the names of diploma holders admitted on government sponsorship to pursue degree courses at Makerere University has been released.
The diploma scheme of government sponsorship is just one of the schemes under which government sponsors several students to pursue university education.
The other schemes are national merit (where the majority of the beneficiaries, mostly top performing candidates are admitted); district quota scheme where each district is given a particular number of slots to be sponsored by the government; the affirmative schemes like the one meant for students with disabilities; and the talent scheme.
This year, as has been the case in previous years, government will sponsor over 4,000 students by paying their tuition, and their bills for meals and accommodation.
These thousands will pursue several undergraduate programs at Makerere University and other public universities like Kyambogo University, Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Gulu University, Busitema University, Kabale University, Soroti University, Muni University, Lira University and Mountains of the Moon University.
Now, the list that is the subject of this report is the one for diploma holders admitted to Makerere University on government sponsorship.
“The Office of Academic Registrar, Makerere University has released lists of Diploma holders admitted under the Government Sponsorship Scheme for the Academic Year 2025/2026,” announced Prof Mukadasi Buyinza.
“Under the Diploma Holders Government Sponsorship Scheme admission does not exceed 5% of the intake capacity to the respective Degree Programme.”
As is the case with all government sponsorship schemes, the admissions are provisional pending verification of their academic documents by the awarding institutions, and the listed candidates have been asked to report to the Makerere University Senate Building for verification of their academic documents.
