The Health Service Commission (HSC) of the Ministry of Education (MoH) has started on the process of recruiting a little over 180 health professionals. The health ministry has advertised juicy jobs at top hospitals and key institutions.
The HSC recently sent out a call for applications from suitably qualified applicants to fill vacant posts tenable at the Ministry of Health Headquarters (MoH-HQ), Regional Referral Hospitals (MoH–RRH), Mulago National Referral Hospital (MNRH), Butabika National Referral Mental Hospital (BNRMH), Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Kawempe Referral Hospital, Uganda Blood Transfusion Services (UBTS) and Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI).
Applicants have been advised to make their applications online through the Health Service Commission site and submit the same to the Secretary, Health Service Commission.
The deadline for applications is May 06, 2025, according to information shared by the commission.
“Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. Shortlisted candidates shall, where applicable, be required to bring their original certificates, letters of appointment, three copies of completed PSF 3, Registration Certificates and Valid Practicing Licenses and evidence of active service, at the oral interview,” noted the Health Service Commission.
“Candidates who will present forged certificates and other documents shall be handed over to the Police for appropriate action.
All services of the Health Service Commission are provided free of charge and equal opportunity is given to all qualified applicants.”
The Health Service Commission has made it clear that health workers who are on long-term training – one year and above – should not bother applying.
The jobs include Deputy Executive Director of the Mulago National Referral Hospital, Senior Consultant (General Surgery) at the Ministry of Health (MoH) headquarters, a Consultant (Paediatrics and Child Health), Deputy Registrar for the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council, Deputy Registrar for the Uganda Allied Health Professionals Council and Deputy Registrar for the Pharmacy Board.
Other top jobs are: Assistant Commissioner (Tuberculosis and Leprosy), Assistant Commissioner (Public Health Nursing), Assistant Commissioner (Midwifery Services), Assistant Commissioner (Clinical Nursing) and Assistant Commissioner (Human Resource Development).
In total, up to 59 job titles have been advertised but there are over 180 vacancies up for grabs.
For the top job of the Deputy Executive Director of the Mulago National Referral Hospital, qualifying candidates must possess a MBChB or BDS or equivalent from a recognized University or Institution; a Master of Medicine Degree in any discipline from a recognized University or Institution; and a post-graduate qualification in Administration or Management or Health Services Management from a recognized University or Institution.
Qualifying candidates for this job must also have at least 15 years’ professional experience in the Health Sector, three of which should have been at senior management or consultant level; and must present evidence of health research published in leading scientific journals; srong leadership, management, communication and interpersonal skills; national and international scientific reputation and ability to organize and motivate a multi-disciplinary team of high-calibre professionals.
The deputy executive director of Mulago National Referral Hospital will be responsible for interpreting and operationalizing the Hospital Vision, Mission and Strategic Objectives; providing technical leadership and guidance to all Hospital specialisations and professionals as well as initiating and formulating policies designed to promote effective health service delivery in the Hospital.
She or he will also ensure the provision of viable health services in the Hospital; direct strategies aimed at ensuring high standards of health care; initiate and maintain collaborative links with national and international Departments and Organisations; coordinate research and planning at the Hospital; and perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
