NUP Vetting Timetable for Parliamentary Flagbearers Per Region

As the country gears towards the 2026 general elections, main opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) has released its vetting timetable for parliamentary flagbearers per region. According to this vetting timetable for parliamentary flagbearers per region, the Election Management Committee will interact with aspirants starting next week.

The NUP Election Management Committee Chairperson Harriet Chemutai has noted that the vetting program for MPs will commence on September 15 and will end on September 21, 2025.

Vetting will take place at the NUP headquarters in Makerere, Kavule in the capital Kampala.

Breaking down how the vetting process shall be conducted, Chemutai noted that that on September 15, 2025, the committee will start with aspirants for Wakiso District, West Nile and Kigezi.

The committee will then vet aspirants from Kampala Capital City, Acholi and Ankole on September 16, 2025.

Those seeking the NUP flag for the parliamentary positions in Greater Masaka, Lango and Tooro will be vetted on September 17, 2025.

Aspirants from Greater Mpigi, Karamoja and Bunyoro will be vetted on September 18, 2025, while those from Greater Mukono, Sebei, Teso and Rwenzori will be vetted on September 19, 2025.

On September 20, 2025, the NUP Election Management Committee will vet candidates from Greater Mubende, Bugisu and Bukedi.

Aspirants seeking the NUP ticket for Greater Luwero and Busoga will be vetted on September 21, 2025.

Chemutai has meanwhile congratulated candidates who were successfully nominated for local government position and urged those who didn’t qualify to rally behind the candidates that the party chose.

Additionally, Chemutai, who was accompanied by Alex Lovans Lwanyanga, the advisor, and John Mary Ssebuufu, the central Regional coordinator, condemned the Uganda EC for “intentionally frustrating some of the NUP candidates” who were supposed to be nominated.

Chemutai said they had such cases in Katakwi, Kapchorwa, Hoima, Nakasongola and among other places, where most of their candidates were reportedly intentionally frustrated and not nominated.

She added that the party is still having candidates who are yet to be nominated, and asked the Justice Simon Byabakama’s Electoral Commission not to continue with the same spirit, saying they are all Ugandans and that if they do not want opposition in Uganda, they should tell them that Museveni runs a one-party state, instead of frustrating their candidates.

Chemutai also condemned the way their candidates have been arrested. These include aspirants like Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, who were supposed to come for vetting and nominated for Member of Parliament seats.

She asked the government to unconditionally free all prisoners, warning that NUP will take action if the state continues arresting their candidates with no reason.
