Ex-NBS TV journalists have lost ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries. Months ago, The Pearl Times’ 2026 Decision Desk reported on the journalists who had left NBS TV to pursue political careers.
The NBS journalists who left their jobs to run for parliament belonged to both the ruling NRM and the opposition, especially the National Unity Platform (NUP).
Among those who had quit NBS jobs to run for NRM flags was Victoria Winfred Bagaaya Akiiki who wanted to be the Fort Portal City Woman MP.
Fort Portal City NRM Returning Officer Alice Nikirungi declared Irene Linda Mugisa as the NRM flag bearer for Fort Portal City Woman MP position.
Mugisa got 9,160 votes or 37.9 per cent all the valid votes. Mugisa Sylvia Rwabwogo who garnered 6,232 votes or 25.7 per cent.
Victoria Winifred Bagaya got 3,662 votes or 15.1 per cent, followed by Judith Mukidi with 3,381 votes or 14 per cent, Ritah Karuyonga with 1,116 votes or 4.5 per cent, and Jane Sandra Kateeba, with 236 votes or 0.1 per cent.
Also, as The Pearl Times previously reported, Charles Mwanguhya Mpagi, who had until months ago been hosting the NBS Frontline show, lost his bid to secure the NRM flag for Burahya county.
In Burahya, results obtained by The Pearl Times indicate that Joseph Mugenyi garnered 23,513 votes or 50.6 per cent, beating Kabarole District LCV Chairman Richard Rwabuhinga Abooki who got 14,916 votes or 32.1 per cent, Charles Mwanguhya Mpagi who got 6,470 votes or 13.9 per cent, Rwigyema H Rubalema with 1,524 votes or 3.3 per cent, and Frank Muhumuza, who trailed with 43 votes or 0.09 per cent.
