City tycoon Hassan Basajjabalaba is unopposed for NRM Entrepreneurs League chairperson after opponents pulled out during State House talks.
The opponents Sanjay Tanna, Phillip Kakuru, and Ceasor Mulenga signed a declaration confirming they had pulled out of the race to let Hassan Basajjabalaba go through unopposed.
Deputy speaker Thomas Tayebwa brokered the deal and appears on the communique on the endorsement of Mr Hassan Basajjabalaba as Chairman of the NRM Entrepreneurs League as the facilitator.
The communique is addressed to the NRM Electoral Commission Chairman Dr Tanga Odoi and delegates of the NRM Entrepreneurs League.
“Following a dialogue initiated by H.E. Yoweri K. Museveni, Chairman of the NRM, and facilitated by Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, Deputy Speaker of Parliament, we, the undersigned candidates for the position of Chairperson of the NRM Entrepreneurs League, and after meeting our party Chairman on this day, August 30, 2025, at State Lodge Nakasero; we have unconditionally endorsed Al Hajj Hassan Basajjabalaba as the unopposed Chairperson of the NRM Entrepreneurs League for the period 2025-2031,” the communique, seen by The Pearl Times, reads.
“We have done this in spirit of party unity and cohesion as emphasized by our party chairman.”

President Yoweri Museveni, the NRM national chairman, confirmed meeting the candidates and saluted them for agreeing to endorse Basajjabalaba.
“I have met with the candidates for the position of NRM Chairperson of the Entrepreneurs League. They have agreed to unconditionally endorse Al Hajj Hassan Basajjabalaba, who is now unopposed,” wrote Museveni.
“First, I would like to thank Rt Hon Thomas Tayebwa for bringing these factions together and thank all the aspirants for their foresight. As I often say, it is not just about who is in the position, but what can be achieved. I congratulate Al Hajji Basajjabalaba and commend the other candidates for their selfless act.”
There had been chaos at Namboole as Basajjabalaba’s opponents accused him of hiding delegates and of bribing them, as reported Here.
