Dr Michael Lulume Bayiga, the MP for Buikwe South, has crossed from Norbert Mao’s Democratic Party (DP) to Dr Kizza Besigye’s People’s Front for Freedom (PFF).
For almost his entire political career, Lulume Bayiga was a member of the DP.
Weeks ago, he ran for the DP presidency but lost to Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Norbert Mao in the chaotic elections held in Mbarara City, Western Uganda.
As The Pearl Times reported in June 2025, Norbert Mao got 969 votes, coming ahead of Buikwe South MP Dr Micheal Lulume Bayiga with 339 votes, and Elia Alitia with 52 votes, according to results announced by Kennedy Mutenyu about 10 minutes before 8pm on Monday, June 02, 2025.
Now, Bayiga has ditched Norbert Mao’s DP and joined PFF, a new political party threatening the status of other parties and seeking to to wrestle President Yoweri Museveni’s National Resistance Movement (NRM) from power.
Last week, PFF formed an alliance with former army commander Maj Gen (Rtd) Mugisha Muntu’s Alliance for National Transformation (ANT).
Both PFF and ANT broke away from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
The latest breakaway, by PFF, was occasioned by allegations that some FDC leaders like Patrick Oboi and Amuriat and Nandala Mafabi received billions from Museveni. (See Details Here and There).
Meanwhile, PFF principal Dr Kizza Besigye remains in prison since his abduction from Nairobi in November 2024.
A bush war general has advised Besigye to betray the struggle so that Museveni can forgive him. (See Details Here and There).
