Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) President and four-time presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye has revealed that party president Patrick Oboi Amuriat (POA) and Secretary General Nathan Nandala Mafabi seemed like they were speaking in tongues when he asked them about the Shs300m they reportedly received from Ugandan longtime ruler and National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairman Gen Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni.
Besigye confirmed that he had indeed learnt about the money from sources. That he had got “two pieces of information” on the dirty money, with the second source giving him more information. In the detailed report, Besigye learnt Amuriat was one of those who had received the money in question.
That the FDC Boss and former Kumi Municipality had received a whopping Shs280m. Besigye said that he had thought it wise to summon Amuriat and quiz him on the money.
Amuriat’s answer was tantamount to speaking in strange tongues.
Besigye narrated: “I called the Hon Amuriat and we met. I asked him ‘did you receive the money from the Hon Nandala?’ He said ‘yes.’ I said ‘how much?’ He said Shs280m… Did he tell you where it came from?’ [Amuriat] said ‘No but in the NEC we had passed a resolution that we should borrow money. So I assume that this is part of what was borrowed.’ And I said, “Okay, if it was borrowed, would you know how much?’ [Amuriat] said “No I am not sure that it was even borrowed. So, I am not sure that it was borrowed.’”
Besigye further revealed that even Nandala did not provide answers on the source of the money.
“The Hon Nandala pulled out some files. He wanted to explain where the money came from. That it’s his money. But we didn’t get into the details,” said Besigye in Kampala on August 07.
It should be remembered that Amuriat and Nandala Mafabi are being accused of pocketing billions from Museveni to fight Bobi Wine. The ‘dirty Museveni’ was kept by Besigye for some time. Amuriat and Nandala are being pushed to resign for receiving money from Museveni. (See Details Here, There and Over There).
