A man claiming to be a supporter of President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s National Resistance Movement (NRM) on December 21 told National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine to go to Luweero if he desires to wear the crown of victory (engule).
A police blockade blocked Bobi Wine to Kiruhura, Museveni’s home town, where he had gone to canvass for votes ahead of next month’s presidential election.
Officers sought to search Bobi Wine’s motorcade but later let the cars proceed without them being checked.
But that was not the only obstacle Bobi Wine encountered.
As he entered Rushere Town, a group of Museveni’s supporters started distributing posters and t-shirts.
One of the youths was captured advising Bobi Wine to go to Luweero – and not his Magere home in Wakiso – if he wanted to wear the crown of victory.
Luweero bushes were the epicenter nucleus of Museveni’s five-year bush war waged between 1980 and 1986 following disputed 1980 election that Museveni’s Uganda Patriotic Movement (UPM) miserably lost but claimed was rigged in favour of Apollo Milton Obote’s Uganda People’s Congress (UPC).
About half a million people are believed to have perished in the National Resistance Army (NRA) war.
“The crown of victory (Engule) comes from Luweero. This is the first district. Mzee [Museveni] has helped educate us. They [Bobi Wine and his group] are enjoying the good roads Museveni constructed. They cause confusion and chaos to burn the tarmac,” the youths said.
“Mzee [Museveni] planted the seeds, now Bobi Wine wants to reap from where he didn’t sow.”
