Rose Tumusiime Paid Shs18000 for Moses Matovu Treatment at Kibuli Hospital When He Was Rushed There — Reports

Rose Tumusiime, the 26-year-old woman who was with veteran musician Moses Matovu shortly before his fatal attack in Kibuli, paid Shs18,000 at Kibuli Hospital when the wounded Afrigo Band legend was rushed there for treatment, according to reports. 

It is said that Tumusiime followed Matovu to the hospital after a boda boda rider, identified only as Paul, and residents helped rush the 77-year-old musician there following the attack.

Tumusiime reportedly made the Shs18,000 payment as an initial contribution towards his treatment as medical workers tried to save his life. Their efforts were unsuccessful, with Matovu pronounced dead at about 7am on Thursday, September 24.

Matovu had reportedly been attacked shortly after leaving Tumusiime’s rented room in Kibuli Market Zone B, Makindye Division. It is said that a man who had previously been in a relationship with Tumusiime confronted the pair, first attacking her before Matovu intervened. That man has since been identified as Vincent Nsamba.

The musician was then struck and fell to the ground.

The circumstances surrounding the confrontation remain under investigation.

Security and homicide teams have since returned to the area for a reconstruction of the crime scene. On Saturday, September 26, a joint team that included officers from police Flying Squad and UPDFwent to the crime scene. They cordoned off the Kibuli Depoy and Market Zone B areas in Makindye Division.

It was Kabalagala Division Police Commander Francis Okongo who led the detectives. They intended to reconstruct the scene of crime as they gather evidence for prosecution of the suspects who are expected in court next week.

Reports also indicate that Tumusiime has since been transferred to the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) headquarters in Kibuli for further questioning.

Matovu, a founding figure of Afrigo Band, died after a music career spanning nearly six decades, leaving Uganda’s entertainment industry mourning one of its most recognisable performers.
