A Ugandan woman has collapsed and died during a police recruitment exercise for candidates shortlisted for Police Probationer Constables (PPCs).
Identified as Margaret Kabasa, the woman hailed from Olok Village of Olok Sub County in the Eastern Uganda district of Pallisa.
Kabasa was aged 25.
Recruiters had given the shortlisted candidates a physical fitness test that required them to do a roundtrip run between the playground of Kalaki Primary School and Pallisa Roundabout.
All had gone well for Kabasa as she ran from the playground of Kalaki Primary School to the Pallisa Roundabout.
However, the return journey seemed to be problematic for her as she collapsed.
They rushed Kabasa to Pallisa General Hospital. But the doctors pronounced her dead on arrival at about 10am of May 06, 2025.
Bukedi North Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Wilfred Kyampasa has been quoted as saying a probe into the cause of death of Kabasa had begun.
Police’s scene of crime officers (Socos) documented the scene at which Kabasa collapsed.
Eyewitnesses and Kabasa’s relatives have also recorded statements to help police find out what killed this candidate for the probationer constable job.
A report from a post-mortem examination was also expected soon.
Police is currently recruiting officers at the rank of constables, with over 17000 candidates shortlisted countrywide. (See their names Here).
Also recruiting is Uganda Prisons which has shortlisted 4800 Ugandans for government payroll jobs as warders, and wardresses. (See full list Here).
