Shamim Malende
Kampala District Woman MP and lawyer to NUP MPs Muhammad Ssegirinya (Kawempe North) and Allan Ssewanyana (Makindye West), has told court unknown people have been threatening to kill her.
On November 10, Malende appeared before Grace Wakholi and Christine Nantege of Masaka Magistrate’s Court where her clients, Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana, face charges of murder, attempted murder and terrorism.
The charges relate to a spate of killings that happened months ago in the Greater Masaka Area.
Malende told court to issue orders beefing up her security, explaining that some people want her to quit the case or pay with her life.
“I request this court to give some kind of order or to have some extra protection for myself, your Worship, because for quite some time I have been receiving threatening messages, people trailing me and threatening me to abandon this case,” said Malende.
Magistrate Wakholi told the NUP lawyer to seek extra security from police chief IGP Martins Okoth Ochola.
“She can also liaise with the office of the IGP for security if her life is at stake because it is the duty of the police to protect every citizen and uphold equal treatment for us all,” advised Wakholi.
