Leave My Decorated Minister Alone: Museveni Defends Musenero Over Shs31bn Covid19 Vaccine Scandal

President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has defended his Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MoSTI), Dr Monica Musenero, against allegations that she misused Shs31bn.

On November 10, deputy speaker Anita Annet Among unveiled a select committee to investigate Dr Musenero.

But speaking during the World Science Day Celebrations at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds on the same day, Museveni castigated parliament for harassing Musenero.

On November 09, Ntungamo Municipality MP Yona Musinguzi called for the investigation of Minister Musenero over several allegations.

Museveni has vowed to punish anyone who tarnishes Musenero’s name without facts.

The president described Musenero as “a decorated officer.”

“Now, I saw some people attacking Musenero. Then I said: ‘do these people know that Musenero is a decorated person?” wondered Museveni.

“So, when I saw people attacking her, I said ‘I hope they are right because if they are not right, I will go for them,’ because you have no right to attack a decorated officer.”

The president also reiterated his resolve to support innovations and pay scientists well.

“We are just starting, I am determined to make sure scientists working for the government are well paid,” he said.

“Plus, all positive efforts (innovations) of our scientists will be funded either by the government directly or through UDB [Uganda Development Bank].”
