The scenes in Butale Kaddugala in Masaka at the burial of former Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya have left the bereaved family members cursing.
Ssegirinya’s sister accused Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform (NUP) foot soldiers of causing confusion by blocking police pallbearers from taking Ssegirinya’s body from their parents’ home to Butale Playground in Masaka.

And while Ssegirinya’s sisters and wife managed to make it to Butale Playground where the former leader of opposition in parliament Mathias Mpuuga group (with Parliament and the state) managed to move to Butale Playground for the funeral proceedings there, the fallen MP’s Justin Nakajjumba stayed at her home.
Ssegirinya’s sister blamed Bobi Wine’s NUP group of holding their mother hostage and not allowing her to go to the Mpuuga event.
Like their mother, Ssegirinya’s siblings praised Mpuuga for being there for their brother.
“Hon. Mpuuga has been there for me, he has always been coming to the hospital to check on me and Ssegirinya, he has been giving me money that I’ve been using to take care of my son,” Nakajjumba said.
Mpuuga accused Bobi Wine and NUP officials of hypocrisy in the handling of the Ssegirinya health matters.
“Ssegirinya was hospitalized at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi for nearly four months. I visited him six times but never took a picture, unlike others who did. Some shameless people visited him just to profit from the situation,” said Mpuuga.
It should be remembered that Mpuuga’s successor Joel Ssenyonyi was in involved in a scandal over taxpayers’ money from parliament meant for visiting Ssegirinya in hospital. (See Details Here, There and Over There).
Ssegirinya’s body was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Butale-Kaddugala in Nyendo-Mukungwe (represented by Mpuuga), in Masaka City.
Earlier in the day, NUP foot soldiers blocked police pallbearers from taking the body of Ssegirinya to Butale playground for an event organized by Mpuuga, the state and Parliament, as reported Here.
It was one of Ssegirinya’s sisters, the one who had been taking care of him in hospital, that ruled that Ssegirinya had told her he loved Bobi Wine and Kawempe North supporters; and that since they wanted the funeral proceedings to happen at his parents’ home, there was no need to go to the playground.
Aged 37, Ssegirinya was pronounced dead on Thursday. On Friday, January 10, Parliament held a special sitting to pay tribute to Ssegirinya, the former Kawempe North MP. A number of Museveni ministers and MPs refused to attend the Ssegirinya special session.
Bugweri MP Abdu Katuntu had to be the acting prime minister for a few minutes and moved the motion to honour Ssegirinya. (See Details Here and There).
A junior Museveni minister told Ugandans blaming Ssegirinya’s death on the prolonged imprisonment and denial of bail to shut up, saying Allah had decided it was time to die.
Leader of Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi narrated Ssegirinya’s hard fight with the Museveni state. See Details Here and There.
Meanwhile, Uganda Law Society (ULS) President Isaac Ssemakadde is under fire and being blasted by a section of Ugandans after he thanked Speaker Anita Among for Muhammad Ssegirinya seat, as reported Here
