The Minister of State for Veteran Affairs Huda Oleru has blasted Ugandans blaming the death of Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya on his prolonged imprisonment due to denial of bail.
Ssegirinya died on Thursday, January 09, 2024. His life deteriorated during with imprisonment on remand over charges related to bijambiya killings in Masaka. But Minister Huda says the Islamic faith teaches that it is God who chooses when someone should die.
The minister added that non-Muslims should leave such issues to those who subscribe to the Islamic faith to explain Allah’s decisions. “If there are Muslims here, they support what I am saying and if you aren’t a Muslim, please keep quiet. Allow the Muslims to talk,” said Huda Oleru.
“The faith I subscribe to, strongly believes that you only die when it is your day and it also says that when God decided that human beings will die, he directed Angel Gabriel that he will be the one to get off the spirit. But when Gabriel failed and said how will I do it, He said, I will help you do it. Like the one (death) of Ssegirinya, he arranged it that time will come, you will pass.
“But for me to believe that you will die because you have overstayed in jail, I will make sure you will remain in the jail. But if you are a believer, you will know it is your time, that is why you have passed on.”
Earlier in the day, a special sitting to pay tribute to Ssegirinya happened at Parliament on Friday, but most Museveni ministers and MPs refused to attend, to the extent that MP Abdu Katuntu had to be the acting prime minister for a few minutes and moved the motion to honour Ssegirinya.
