The body of a Ntare School student who had been indefinitely suspended for escaping has been recovered from Rwizi.

Earlier, a statement by Rwizi Regional police spokesperson SP Samson Kasasira had talked about suspected drowning in River Rwizi.

“Police at Mbarara Central Police Station have opened a death inquiry file into the unidentified body of a male adult that was recovered floating on River Rwizi in Kasanyaraze cell,Kakoba ward in Mbarara City, in the evening of 10/07/2025 at around 1830/c,” Kasasira had said.

“It’s alleged that on the 10/07/2025 at 1830/c floating body of an unidentified male adult was seen floating on River Rwizi  near the Nyamitanga Bridge and the residents informed Police that responded to scene where the body was recovered and conveyed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital mortuary pending  postmortem.”

Police had urged whoever might have a missing person to get in touch with CPS Mbarara to identify the identity of deceased.

It later emerged that the body was of Elvis Magambo, a Senior Five student at Ntare School.

“It has been established to be that of Magambo Elves 19 years S.5 Student at Ntare School Son of Dr. Magambo Emmanuel resident of  Makenke Cell Mbarara city worker at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital,” said Kasasira.

“This comes after a case of disappearance was reported at Koranorya Police Station on the 02/07/2027 from home after being expelled from school. Body was recovered yesterday 10/07/2025  floating on  R. Rwizi at about 1800hrs in Kasanyarazi cell Kakoba. We condone with the family of the deceased and investigations into his death are still ongoing.”

Information obtained by The Pearl Times indicates that Ntare School headmaster Saul Rwampororo had written to Magambo’s parent informing him of his son’s “exclusion” from the school.

Rwampororo said Magambo’s act of escaping from school constituted a “very serious indiscipline case” that could “not be tolerated in the school.”

Magambo went missing on Wednesday, July 09, before his body was recovered lifeless on River Rwizi.

The family held a requiem service to celebrate the life of the 19-year-old.

At Makenke Church of Uganda in Mbarara City North Division, mourners joined the family and clergy at the requiem service.

The deceased’s father Dr Emmanuel Magambo said that postmortem report released by Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital indicated that Elvis’s body had been thrown in River Rwizi. Elvis had been stabbed, his father added.

According to Headmaster Rwampororo’s letter to Dr Emmanuel Magambo, which The Pearl Times has seen, the school’s Board of Governors (BOG) was expected to discuss Elvis’ exclusion from school.

The Pearl Times has also learnt that Ntare School was accused of jumping over the school’s perimeter wall at about 8pm. He was said to have attended a trade show at Kakyeka.

Recently, a university lecturer was found dead, while a few months ago, a university student was found dead, while a college student was discovered dead after going out to have fun. (See Details Here, There and Over There).
