Another university student was found dead. The student is said to have committed su!cide, according to a preliminary police report.
Police in the Western Uganda district of Bushenyi say they are investigating the death of a first-year student at the Western Campus of Kampala International University (KIU) based in Ishaka Town.
Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson Superintendent of Police (SP) Apollo Tayebwa identified the deceased student as John Lukoma.
Lukoma, who was 20 years old, was pursuing a nursing course at KIU Western Campus.
Police say the body of Lukoma was found hanging on a rope that was tied to an avocado tree at a male students’ hostel.
A security guard at KIU Western campus found the body hanging lifeless at around 6:40am on the morning of May 09, 2025.
It was the security guard who reported the matter to Bushenyi District Police whose scene of crime officers (Socos) came with operatives of the homicide unit and documented the scene of crime.
The body was conveyed to the KIU Teaching Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
It was not yet clear what led Lukoma to take his life but it is suspected that he was depressed over failure to get money to pay tuition fees ahead of end of semester examinations.
In March, another student who had gone out to have fun was found dead. (See Details Here).
