Pastor Robert Kayanja and Frank Gashumba
Frank Gashumba has warned Pastor Robert Kayanja against mentioning his name again, threatening to release what he described as an “atomic bomb” that could destroy the prominent preacher.
Speaking during his latest appearance on Radio 4, Gashumba told the Rubaga Miracle Centre Cathedral lead pastor to stop responding to him, invoking his friendship with Kayanja’s wife, Jessica Kayanja, as he delivered the warning.
“Mr Kayanja, you are a mature man, you have a wife. His wife Jessica is my friend. Don’t respond to me again because if you do, I’ll release what they call an atomic bomb that will destroy you,” Gashumba said.
“I’m not threatening,” he added.
Gashumba challenged the pastor to mention his name again, suggesting that doing so would trigger a response that would reveal a different side of him.
“Mr Kayanja, if you know you are man, mention my name again. That is when you will know who Omuvandimwe Gashumba is,” he said.
The outspoken media personality said he had previously exercised restraint out of respect for the families involved, but accused Kayanja of crossing a line with remarks directed at him.
“We’re civil, we don’t speak about some other things because we respect your families,” Gashumba said.
He went on to refer to a statement in which Kayanja allegedly gave him one year to “turn into a chapati,” arguing that the exchange had reached a point where he could no longer remain silent.
“When you get to the level of saying that you have given me one year for me to turn into a chapati…” Gashumba said.
The exchange comes amid a public dispute over claims of miraculous healing, following Gashumba’s challenge to religious leaders who preach about miracles to demonstrate their powers under conditions he considers convincing.
Gashumba proposed putting Shs500 million on the table and finding a neutral person who was critically ill at Mulago National Referral Hospital, Nsambya Hospital or Mengo Hospital for pastors to attempt to heal.
“Let us look for a neutral person and put Shs500 million there,” Gashumba said during the debate.
“Every day people are dying at Mulago. Why don’t you go there and heal those who are sick?” he asked, challenging pastors to demonstrate their claims outside church services.
His proposal was framed as a test of claims made by religious leaders who say they can heal the sick through prayer.
Kayanja, who has defended the authenticity of miracles associated with his ministry, pushed back against Gashumba’s position.
“Our miracles are not fake. They are God made. It is biblical that you have to be born again to have them,” the pastor said.
He also urged believers not to be swayed by Gashumba’s challenge, saying: “Do not listen to the foolishness of a person claiming there are no miracles.”
The dispute has brought into the public arena a broader disagreement over claims of faith healing, with Gashumba demanding a practical demonstration while Kayanja maintains that miracles are rooted in Christian faith.
Gashumba’s latest warning, however, moves the exchange beyond the question of miracles, with the businessman and media personality suggesting that he has information about Kayanja that he could make public.
He did not disclose the contents of the alleged “atomic bomb” in the available excerpt of his Radio 4 appearance.
But he alluded to allegations against some city pastors in the attempted assassination of House of Prayer Ministries International (HPMI) lead ‘pastor’ Aloysius Bujjingo.
