NEW NUP APPOINTMENTS: Muwanga Kivumbi Replaces Mathias Mpuuga, Jacqueline Tukamushaba Replaces Late Jolly Mugisha

Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform (NUP) has appointed Butambala County MP Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi as the new deputy party president for Buganda region, replacing Mathias Mpuuga.

In NUP circles, Mpuuga, the Nyendo Mukungwe MP and former leader of the opposition in parliament, faces allegations relating to the Shs500m service award, although court cleared him. (See Details Here).

Bobi Wine suspended him from his roles as NUP deputy party president for Buganda region but his successor had not been chosen.

NUP secretary general David Lewis Rubongoya announced the appointment of Kivumbi at the party headquarters at Makerere Kavule in Kampala on January 16, 2025.

Also appointed was Jacqueline Tukamushaba, the replacement for the late Jolly Mugisha, who now becomes deputy president for Western Uganda.

Jolly Mugisha died last year after spending weeks in hospital. (See Details Here).

Rubongoya said the newly appointed leaders will serve in acting capacity until June 2025 when the delegates conference will either choose to keep them or replace them with new ones.

Days before being replaced with Kivumbi, Mpuuga held a parallel funeral event for former Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya, leaving the family divided between him and Bobi Wine. (See Details Here and There).

Mpuuga has also formed a new political formation, recruiting singer Alien Skin, who weeks ago raided Bobi Wine’s NUP offices. Mpuuga and Alien Skin belongs to the so-called alliance of thieves, as the latter hinted during the formation’s unveiling. (See Details Here and There).
