Museveni to 5 Retiring Army Generals: Don’t Gamble with Your Juicy Retirement Packages

President Yoweri Museveni has advised five retiring army generals to wisely invest their good retirement packages. The president told them to inject their packages in assets and not to misuse their money.

In a retirement ceremony held at State House Entebbe, Museveni bade farewell to the retiring UPDF generals. The five are: Maj Gen Silver Kayemba, Brig Gen Christopher Kasaija, Brig Gen Charles Kisembo, Brig Gen Godard Busingye and Brig Gen Fred Karara.

The president warned Maj Kayemba, Brig Gen Kasaija, Kisembo, Busingye and Karara against gambling their retirement packages. “That retirement package is very good for you, do not gamble,” said Museveni.

The president, and commander in chief of armed forces, said he had spent years working to ensure that soldiers get good pay and retirement packages, especially after the men and women in uniform worked for little or no pay.

“I struggled very hard to make sure that as you retire, you get a good package. That is why I kept the casualty unit in Mubende; I said I can’t allow a Ugandan who is injured and crippled in the army to go to the village when we are still getting these low salaries and be a pauper there,” said Museveni.

He also stressed the need for Ugandans to understand principles of patriotism, Pan-Africanism, and socio-economic transformation, noting that Uganda’s stability and economic growth are anchored on these pillars.

“We need an army of Uganda, but the army of Uganda must also understand the importance of Africa,” he emphasized.

It should be remembered that Museveni’s government has increased salaries of UPDF officers as well as some officers in the police and prisons service. (See Details Here, There and Over There).
