Museveni with his grandson Ruhamya Kainerugaba, son to CDF Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba
First son and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has revealed that his son – and president Yoweri Museveni’s grandson – Ruhamya Kainerugaba has joined the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
From Museveni’s generation to Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s and now to Ruhamya, the Museveni family seems to be interested in a military profession across generations.
Museveni, who is aged 80, led a five-year bush war that led him to power in 1986 after which he has ruled the country for now four decades.
As Museveni seeks another term, Muhoozi is at the top of his military career as the CDF. Now, the CDF’s son is beginning his military career.
Gen Muhoozi has expressed his joy at his son’s enlistment in the Ugandan army which he heads as military chief.
“I’m extremely happy to announce that after 31 years in God’s Army, UPDF, God has blessed the House of Museveni with another soldier as of last month,” noted Muhoozi.
“Private Ruhamya Kainerugaba, may Almighty God bless him as He did me.”
Gen Muhoozi has expressed presidential ambitions and his son Ruhamya could play a pivotal role in the security and defence policy if the first son ever manages to succeed his father.
Museveni is seeking reelection in 2026 to extend his rule to 45 years by the year 2031.
As early as over a decade ago, Gen David Sejusa (previously Tinyefuuza) made claims of a plot to eliminate top government officials and security officers opposed to the so-called Muhoozi project, where Museveni would reportedly help his son succeed him.
Some bush war generals have previously said they will never salute Gen Muhoozi if he ever becomes president. (See Details Here, There and Over There).
Across the border in Rwanda, President Paul Kagame’s sons have joined the country’s army, prompting rumors of a project similar to the Muhoozi Project. (See Details Here and There).
President Kagame recently spoke about reports on his health condition, as reported Here.
