Minister Balaam Barugahara: God Has Changed His Mind of Making Muhoozi President in 2026

Junior minister in charge of youth and children’s affairs, Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, has claimed that God has changed his mind on making first son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba Uganda’s president in 2026.

Balaam Barugahara is a strong supporter of Gen Kainerugaba’s MK Movement and Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), both pushing for the first son’s presidential interests. He also openly supports Gen Yoweri Museveni, Uganda’s president of nearly four decades, who is also Gen Muhoozi’s father.

An events organizer and businessman, Balaam Barugahara was appointed junior minister in March 2024, the time when Museveni appointed his son the army chief. (Read Details Here, There and Over There).

A good number of PLU and MK Movement supporters had widely expected that Gen Kainerugaba would run for president in 2026 as he seeks to succeed his father.

But last week, Gen Kainerugaba came out and made it clear he would not stand for president in the next election. Currently serving as the Chief of Defence Force (CDF), Gen Kainerugaba fully endorsed his father, Gen Museveni, for reelection in 2026. (See Details Here).

In a media appearance after Kainerugaba’s big announcement, Balaam Barugahara noted that while “God had initially told Gen Muhoozi that he will be President in 2026,” it was important for Ugandans to remember that “visions keep changing and appearing.”

He explained that the appointment of Gen Kainerugaba as CDF had changed his political plan and the promise God had made to him.

“God put in place the president of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the president and he has had a vision and a mission. We all thought that God would favour a descendant of Museveni immediately and God had initially told Muhoozi he would be a president in 2026. But remember the same God guided the president to appoint Gen Muhoozi a CDF as a transformer of the UPDF,” Balaam Barugahara told NBS.

“So when God changes your role at one given time – He has made him the CDF, a position he wasn’t thinking he would have because by the time he had that vision he had another role. Now God through a senior person, the president of Uganda, has guided the president, ‘please appoint Balaam Barugahara as a minister of youths, appoint Gen Muhoozi as a CDF.”

So, what is Kainerugaba’s new direction?

“God is giving Muhoozi new direction. This is what he should do: make sure your soldiers are paid good pay and he has implemented that, make sure your soldiers get good housing and they leave those tents. So he’s transforming the barracks… God is transforming him,” claimed Balaam Barugahara.

“God is telling him, ‘make sure you train the UPDF to be as good as the Israel army, the IDF. So his focus is making the UPDF as good as IDF so that it can defend our nation.”

Although Museveni has made it clear he intends to run for president in 2026, debate continues to rage on whether he is still fit and healthy to lead the country, with some pushing for fitness and cognitive tests. (See Details Here and There).
