A Ugandan State House official has dared opposition MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda to a fitness challenge with President Yoweri Museveni at 80.
Museveni recently turned 80. He has ruled Uganda for almost a half of his official age. MP Ssemujju of Kira Municipality wants regular fitness tests and medical checkups for President Museveni given his age.
But Museveni’s deputy press secretary Faruk Kirunda has fired back at MP Ssemujju daring him to a fitness challenge with Museveni if he thinks the octogenarian is not fit enough to be at the helm of the landlocked East African country.
Kirunda reminded Ssemujju that Museveni did a nearly 200km trek, wondering the 50-year-old Ssemujju can even walk a half of that distance!
“Hon. Ssemujju enjoys taking jibes at H.E Yoweri Museveni but I challenge him write to the President formally for a fitness challenge with the Big Man,” wrote Kirunda.
“Last time, the President trekked 195km from Galamba to Birembo. Can Ssemujju even do half of that at his age?”
Kirunda even thinks that Ssemujju and his opposition group must be shocked by how much Museveni has remained fit at his advanced age, and that they have nothing to tell Ugandans.
“These people promoted ‘tojikwatako’ against lifting the “age limit” from the Constitution, claiming that the President was too old. Now they see him getting more fit and alert at 80 and have nothing to tell Ugandans, hence resorting to personal attacks and mockery,” said Kirunda.
“Let’s stick to practical discussions on substantive issues affecting Ugandans.”
