LIST: Education Service Commission Confirms Appointment of Hundreds of Teachers on Government Payroll

The Education Service Commission has confirmed the appointments of more than 200 education personnel and approved several other employment changes affecting teachers and non-teaching staff in government education institutions across Uganda.

The decisions are contained in a notice issued by the commission following its 12th Full Commission Meeting of 2026, Cluster 3, Bukedi, in which it listed personnel whose appointments have been confirmed, regularised or corrected, alongside those approved for retirement on medical grounds.

The largest category comprises 216 personnel listed under confirmation of appointment, including assistant education officers, education officers, headteachers, deputy headteachers, lecturers, assistant instructors, accountants and other support staff.

The affected personnel serve in institutions spread across several districts and cities, including Kampala, Wakiso, Mukono, Kayunga, Luweero, Kiryandongo, Fort Portal, Kasese, Kagadi, Kabale, Bushenyi, Mbarara, Rukungiri, Rakai, Lira and Adjumani.

Among the institutions represented are Uganda Technical College Bushenyi, Uganda Technical College Kicwamba, Uganda Petroleum Institute Kigumba, Kabale Technical Institute, Wanyange Girls Secondary School, Masheruka Girls Secondary School and several government secondary schools.

The commission also approved the regularisation of six appointments involving personnel serving in different capacities, including teachers, instructors, a library assistant, a principal of a vocational training institute and a deceased assistant education officer.

In addition, the document lists 29 corrigenda cases involving changes or corrections to personnel records and employment details.

Two employees, Mariam Namusisi, a pool stenographer, and Wolfgang Mugisha, a technical teacher, were listed for retirement on medical grounds.

The commission also approved the posthumous confirmation of Musisi Kalera Wilson, a deceased assistant education officer who served at Nakanyonyi Secondary School in Mukono District.

The notice, signed on behalf of the Secretary of the Education Service Commission by Kaaya Mohammed, directs the affected personnel to contact the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Sports to obtain their respective official letters.

The commission said the decisions were made in accordance with Articles 167, 168 and 172 of the 1995 Constitution, which provide for the establishment, functions and powers of the Education Service Commission.
The latest decisions affect personnel working in a wide range of education institutions, from ordinary secondary schools to technical colleges and vocational training institutes, highlighting the different employment matters handled by the commission.
