How 10141 Candidates – The Last Group Doing Old Curriculum Exams – Performed in Transitional UCE 2024

Results for the last group doing old curriculum exams, known as transitional UCE 2024 exams, were released on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, alongside those for the New Lower Secondary Curriculum (NLSC).

A total of 10,141 candidates from 1,028 centres registered for transitional UCE 2024 examinations. Of these, 4,369 or 43.1 per cent were males while 5,373 or 52.9 per cent were females.

Of the same number, 813 or 8.0 per cent were beneficiaries of the Universal Secondary Education (USE) programme and 8,929 or 88.0 per cent were Non-USE. Of the total number registered, 9,742 or 96.1 per cent sat for the examination.

These were 4,369 males and 5,373 females, while 399 did not turn up to sit the transitional UCE 2024 examinations.

Uganda National Examinations Board registered 44 candidates with Special Needs. Of these, 20 were males while 24 were females.

These consisted of the blind (2), those with low vision (12), the deaf (1), the dyslexics (8) and the physically handicapped (6).

There were 15 others with other forms of disability that only needed to be given extra time. Only one candidate was absent.

Up to 1,629 candidates failed the transitional UCE 2024 exams and will not move on to the next stage of education, while 8,113 candidates passed and will move on to the next stage.

Overall, male candidates performed slightly better than their female counterparts, Uneb noted in its report on the results.

Regarding examination malpractice, Uneb says there were a few cases of malpractice especially external assistance and impersonation.

The results of those implicated in examination malpractice will be withheld in accordance with the law, the assessment body said.
