Government Buys Brand New Cars for District Chairpersons, Mayors

President Yoweri Museveni’s government has bought brand new cars for district chairpersons, city mayors and municipal mayors, The Pearl Times has learnt.

The procurement of the brand new vehicles, Toyota Double Cabin pickups, is happening in phases, with the first batch of up to 90 vehicles expected at the close of this month.

More vehicles, in the second batch, will be brought to the country in November 2025.

Government will spend Shs35.2bn on the purchase of the vehicles, according to the minister for local government, Raphael Magyezi.

“Government has procured brand new vehicles (Toyota Double Cabin pick-up) for all District Chairpersons, City Mayors and Municipal Mayors. The first batch of 90 vehicles will be in the country by the end of September 2025, while the last batch is expected in November 2025,” said Magyezi in his response to a petition by Uganda Local Government Associations (ULGA) on issues affecting service delivery in local governments.

“We thank H. E. the President, Cabinet and Parliament for appropriating UShs.35.2bn in the supplementary budget in April this year, for this purpose.”
