We Escorted Nubian Li to His Home to Prevent Chaos – Police

Police says they have not arrested Nubian Li but rather escorted him to his home to prevent chaos.

Nubian Li, a singing partner to main opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine, was grabbed and bundled into a vehicle and driven off after being nominated to run for the Nakawa mayoral position.

Nubian Li, real name Ali Bukeni, is the official NUP flagbearer for the Nakawa mayoral race. He was picked from Ntinda Electoral Commission office where he had earlier been nominated to run for Nakawa mayor.

NUP officials had earlier accused police and state security agencies of arresting Nubian Li in a continued spate of abductions and arrests of the main opposition party’s members.

“A short while ago as he exited the Electoral Commission offices in Ntinda after being nominated for the position of Nakawa Mayor, Ali Buken (Nubian Li) was pushed into a police truck and taken to an unknown location,” wrote leader of opposition in parliament Joel Ssenyonyi.

“The fear of the regime is evident, let’s press on!”

Now Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire has said that Nubian Li was not arrested but rather escorted home “safely.”

“There has been no arrest of Nubian Li. What I want to confirm is that police which was at EC got information that Nubian Li and his colleagues had planned a procession of vehicles and bodabodas as they were coming from the nomination centre in Ntinda.

The procession was going to go through busy centres and we believed this could have caused a lot of jam and some impending chaos.”

On September 08, the NUP deputy spokesperson was abducted as the Museveni state intensifies a crackdown on Bobi Wine’s party members. (See Details Here).
