Education Ministry Announces Recruitment of Teachers for KCCA Schools (See Details and How to Apply)

Kampala, UgandaThe Ministry of Education and Sports, through the Education Service Commission (ESC), has unveiled two major recruitment adverts totalling 92 vacancies in government-aided primary schools under the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), in a fresh drive aimed at strengthening staffing levels and improving education service delivery in the capital.

The vacancies, contained in External Advert No. 1/2026 and Internal Advert No. 1/2026, target both new entrants into the teaching profession and serving education officers already within the KCCA system.

According to ESC, the External Advert is open to qualified Ugandans seeking entry-level teaching positions, while the Internal Advert is reserved for substantively appointed staff already serving in KCCA government-aided primary schools. Successful applicants will be deployed by KCCA, with women and persons with disabilities strongly encouraged to apply.

External recruitment: 57 Education Assistant posts

Under the External Advert No. 1/2026, ESC is seeking to fill 57 positions of Education Assistant (Scale U7).

Applicants are required to hold a Grade III Teaching Certificate, with a Diploma in Primary Education considered an added advantage. Candidates must also be registered with the Ministry of Education and Sports and appear on the government payroll of any district local government. The age limit for new entrants is set at below 50 years.

Internal recruitment: 35 leadership and senior posts

The Internal Advert No. 1/2026 comprises 35 vacancies spread across leadership, senior teaching, and administrative roles.

The breakdown includes headteachers, deputy headteacher and senior education assistants.

Headteacher (Primary), Scale U4 — 8 posts

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Education (Primary), registration as a Graduate Teacher, and at least 12 years of teaching experience, including three years as a substantive Deputy Headteacher.

Deputy Headteacher (Primary), Scale U5 — 1 post

Requires a Diploma in Education (Primary), registration as a Grade V teacher, and at least nine years of experience, including three years as a Senior Education Assistant.

Senior Education Assistant, Scale U6 — 22 posts

Applicants must hold a Grade III Teaching Certificate and have at least six years of experience as an Education Assistant.

Officer, Education Services (Non-Teaching, KCCA Headquarters), Scale KCCA 7 — 4 posts

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Education (or Postgraduate Diploma in Education), registration as a Graduate Teacher, and at least two years of teaching experience.

How to apply

ESC has directed all applicants to submit their applications exclusively online through its E-recruitment portal. Hand-delivered applications will not be accepted.

Applications must be submitted via: erecruit[DOT]esc[DOT]go[DOT]ug. The deadline for both adverts is 24th June 2026 at 11:59 p.m.

Applicants are required to Create an account on the portal and verify email registration, prepare scanned copies of academic documents, passport photo, IDs, and recommendation forms, submit applications by selecting the relevant job and uploading documents, and save confirmation details after submission.

Internal applicants are required to route their applications through their heads of institution.

ESC emphasized that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted and will be required to present original documents during interviews.

The recruitment exercise is part of ongoing efforts by government to address staffing gaps in KCCA schools and improve the quality of primary education in urban schools across Kampala.
