Ugandan comedian Nicholas Mpirwe aka DJ Messe Bontwe passed on this week in Texas, US, where he had gone to seek greener pastures.
DJ Messe Bontwe, who hails from Kaiho, Rwensinga in Rwampara District, was yet to move his family to the US, according to his close friends.
His death has been described as sudden and shocking.
His close friend Grace Ssekamatte told a local media outlet that DJ Messe Bontwe had left his workplace when he seemed okay. That he had told his friends that he felt he needed to go and have some rest.
That his close friends were shortly called to his room and were told that he had difficulty in breathing. That an ambulance was called in to rush him to hospital. Ssekamatte said that about 20 minutes later, DJ Messe Bontwe was pronounced dead.
DJ Messe Bontwe had planned to travel to Uganda to attend his Amarula Family co-founder Amooti Omubalanguzi ‘s show celebrating his 25 years in the comedy industry. But ahead of the show that happened on December 13, DJ Messe Bontwe was pronounced dead, leaving Amooti Omubalanguzi with no option but to continue with the celebration without the Amarula Family co-founder. It should be remembered that another co-founder, Paddy Bitama, passed on years ago.
Amooti Omubalanguzi said DJ Messe Bontwe had vowed to surprise him. That he had some sickness but it had been managed well.
In a media interview, Amooti Omubalanguzi identified the disease that he knew DJ Messe Bontwe was suffering from as akabengo, scientifically known as splenomegaly.
Awaiting official medical records, some reports suggest that DJ Messe Bontwe succumbed to a heart attack.
