Bobi Wine Injured by Tear Ball Grenades – Besigye

Dr Kizza Besigye, the veteran opposition leader, says National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine was injured by tear ball grenades.

Bobi Wine was injured in the leg in an incident in Bulindo, Kira in Wakiso District on September 03, 2024.

Bobi Wine and his supporters were returning from the thanksgiving ceremony for NUP party lawyer George Musisi in Bulindo. There is still disagreement on what exactly happened and what injured Bobi Wine.

A preliminary report by police indicated that officers at the scene had claimed that Bobi Wine stumbled as he got to his vehicle.

NUP disagrees with this claim and alleges that it was a teargas canister that hit Bobi Wine. Now Besigye, who fought in the bush with President Museveni and served as his personal physician, says Bobi Wine was injured by tear ball grenades.

Besigye says his conclusion is based on Leader of Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi’s brief. He has condemned “police aggression.”

“I’ve just caught up with what happened last evening in Bulindo, Kira. The horrible outcome of what, as usual, is totally uncalled for police aggression against political ‘opposition’ leaders,” he said.

“From LOP Ssenyonyi’s brief, the injuries Hon Kyagulanyi suffered are from the Tear Ball Grenades (usually blue coloured), that UPF liberally employs as part of persecution- NOT policing!”

Besigye added, “We condemn the UPF for its continued rampant abuse of Human Rights. We pray for President Kyagulanyi’s speedy recovery.”

Police say they are still investigating and will release a report on the incident when the probe has concluded.

Currently admitted at Nsambya Hospital, Bobi Wine is expected to undergo surgery to remove fragments of tear gas canister. (Read Story Here).

But former spy Charles Rwomushana has claimed that it was Eddie Mutwe who threw an explosive that injured Bobi Wine. (See Details Here).
