After a recent murder of a police officer by a mob in Ibanda District, another officer of the law and order agency has been shot.
Police in Rubirizi District are hunting for unknown assailants who shot and injured a police officer on the morning of Tuesday, 08 April 2025.
The incident happened at around 4:00am at Nyakagyezi II Cell along Katerera-Kyambura Road.
The Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, Marcial Tumusiime, has confirmed the incident.
Tumusiime identified the victim as Yoakim Onyango attached to Kanywero Army Detach in 209 Battalion.
Tumusiime said that a team of Police and UPDF Officers, who were on patrol travelling in motor vehicle registration number UBN 103V Wish, came across another vehicle registration number UBN 856 Q WISH at Nyakagyezi II cell in Katerera Town Council and on checking on the occupants, one of the occupants discharged a bullet and drove away leaving a police officer injured on the left leg.
He said the victim was rushed to a nearby clinic for treatment. The hunt for the suspects is ongoing, according to Tumusiime.
A similar incident happened in Rubirizi last month when a security guard shot a police officer, as reported Here.
Elsewhere in Western Uganda, at least 29 people have been arrested over the killing of a police officer at the funeral of a man who died after spending time in a government prison. Uganda Prisons Service has since revealed what exactly killed the man at whose burial a police officer was killed. (See Details Here and There).
Meanwhile, the District Chairperson of Kapchorwa where PC Suleiman Chemonges hailed from, has called on the people not to attack westerners in the district over the death of the police officer, as reported Here.
