So, you have been making good progress in your life. You have acquired that vehicle, key academic documents and a number of electronics for your home office. You already know that the responsibility of security these valuable items lies solely with you. You can remember some stories you have heard regarding the pain that your friends or relatives have gone through to trace and find their missing car or motorcycle, National ID card, passport or driving permit, a laptop or that expensive phone.
All this is understandably troublesome. But it should not be that painful and difficult to find your missing valuables if you are using Zzula, a social security app.
Available on both Playstore and Appstore, the Zzula app allows users to register their items’ serial numbers. The records are safely and privately kept and will be only used in case the vehicle, document or electronic device is stolen or gets lost.
CATEGORIES OF VALUABLES ZZULA APP SECURES
Three categories of valuable items are registered: automobiles (vehicles) such as cars, trucks and motorcycles; electronics such as phones, tablets, TV sets, fridges, and microwaves; and documents such as National IDs, passports or driving permits.
For automobiles, the following details are captured: category of item – for example motorcycle, car or truck – make and model, Registration Number, Chassis Number, Third Party Insurance Company and expiry date, as well as front, back and rear view pictures of the vehicle.
The second category is that of electronics. During registration, one is required to offer the following details: category of item – for example phone, tablet, TV set, fridge, or microwave – make and model, Serial Number (IMEI), Serial Number (second IMEI) – which is optional – as well as front, back and rear view pictures of the electronic device.
For documents, a National Identification Number (NIN), ID Number or Serial Number are needed depending on the document.
“This [registration] then makes it easy to track back the owner of the item incase it’s found by any member of the public or police. Because of such functionality we therefore advise users to register all household items’ serials and images within the app for future use incase their property goes missing,” explained Michael Rutaremwa, a developer from Michael & Paul Systems (U) Limited, the innovation company behind the application.
It is also important to note that the user (owner of the valuable item) is allowed to edit any previously uploaded information, including photos, as and when they wish. One is also able to change the status of the item from safe to lost/stolen or from lost/stolen to safe in case it has been successfully recovered.
SAFE TRANSACTIONS
As Rutaremwa further explains, through its electronic registration features, the mobile application does not only help you secure your valuables but also facilitates transactions – except for the case of documents such as IDs, driving permits and passports which exclusively belong to one person and cannot be traded.
“Zzula also enables one transfer ownership of their property and this transfer is referred to as a virtual transfer agreement. This leaves a footprint of ownership within the app to avoid incidences where one is blamed of having a stolen item and the seller denies responsibility,” he noted.
“It’s with such a service that we advise all buyers of second hand items to request the seller to register the item with Zzula and then transfer it to the buyer to create an undeniable footprint of ownership transfer.”
