You can’t stop me: Furious Kadaga openly tells Museveni after NRM CEC chose Jacob Oulanyah for speaker

Outgoing speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has told off NRM party chairman president Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni and members of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) that their decision to back her rival Jacob Oulanyah will not stop her from running as an independent candidate.

On Sunday, majority of NRM CEC members chose Oulanyah as the party’s candidate for the 11th Parliament speaker job.

But several sources within Kadaga’s camp have claimed Kadaga told off NRM CEC members, furiously making it clear their decision would not block her.

“I will stand as an independent,” she reportedly told CEC members after they rejected her.

“Let MPs decide.”

Days ago, Kadaga had expressed concern over NRM CEC’s role in choosing a candidate for the speaker race.

She has wondered why the same CEC doesn’t choose the NRM presidential candidate.

But she didn’t blame CEC for asking Oulanyah to step down from the race in her favour in the 2016 race nor did she complain that the same party organ has been choosing her since 2001 when she was elected deputy speaker.

Kadaga is yet to officially announce her decision to stand as an independent.

And the clock is ticking to Monday, May 24: the D-Day for the election of 11th Parliament speaker.
