Buganda Kingdom Prime Minister Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga’s handling of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi’s sickness has made some call for his resignation.

On April 13, Kabaka Mutebi appeared for his 66th birthday celebration looking frail and sick.

The king had spent months without being seen in public.

He had even missed the Masaza Football Cup final.

Now, a group of Buganda loyalists are making unsubstantiated allegations against Katikkiro Mayiga in relation to the kabaka’s worrying Kabaka’s health condition.

Some claim the Katikkiro is working with the enemies of the kingdom to end the Kabaka’s life. They are yet to provide proof for this allegation, grave as it sounds.

These loyalists, venting their anger against the Katikkiro through several social media platforms, argue that it was wrong for Mayiga to keep them in the dark about the Kabaka’s health.

It should be remembered that when the Kabaka missed Masaza Cup Final, Katikkiro Mayiga said he had rushed to Nairobi to meet some Buganda Kingdom partners.

He also repeatedly denied the Kabaka was ill.

Other loyalists also accuse Mayiga of seeking to embarrass the kabaka by advising him to appear before his subjects while looking frail.

Yet some others say it was prudent for the Kabaka to appear before his subjects to avoid more questions just in case the worst happened to the king.

Others have also accused the Katikkiro of being negligent when it comes to the Kabaka’s health.

That he should have ensured the Kabaka is rushed to a better hospital in Europe, America or India for specialized treatment instead of advising him to appear for a birthday celebration while looking terribly sick.

This group of loyalists also say Mayiga should even have led a fundraising drive to collect money to fly the Kabaka abroad for treatment just like he went across the kingdom for Toffali money to reconstruct Kasubi Tombs.
