UPDATE: Four Teachers Arrested for Selling Each Set of Fake PLE 2024 Papers at Shs750K Remanded

Grade One Magistrate Ivan Seguya of Kiira Magistrate’s Court has remanded four teachers who were arrested for reportedly selling fake PLE 2024 papers.

The four arrested over unauthorised possession and online dissemination of fake UNEB PLE papers include Vincent Bakashaba, a teacher at Kimongole Primary School in Isingiro District; Vincent Muheki, a teacher at Vision Primary School in Ibanda; Albert Pabeku, a teacher at Stoneridge Primary School in Kira; and Hosea Oyet from Dignatory Junior School in Rukungiri.

Working with security agencies, the arrests show how assessment body Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb) is living true to the theme: embracing security and holistic assessment of learners in a dynamic environment.

Bakashaba, Muheki, Pabeku and Oyet were reportedly extorting up to Shs 750,000/= per set of the purported four PLE papers, according to Uneb.

According to Section 25 of the UNEB Act, CAP 259, any person who gains or attempts to gain possession of any examination paper, or any part of an examination paper, examination material, or any other material or information which purports to relate to the contents of an examination paper, commits an offence.

If convicted, such a person will be ordered to pay a fine not exceeding one thousand currency points or Shs 20 million, or be sentenced to a term of imprisonment not exceeding five years or both.

Hundreds of thousands of candidates are set to write their PLE papers starting on Wednesday November 6, 2024. Bakashaba, Muheki, Pabeku and Oyet, who have pleaded guilty to the charges, will be on remand until Thursday, November 07, 2024.
