GOONS IN YELLOW: Police Arrests 21 Suspected Criminals Who Wore NRM T-Shirts and Robbed, Beat People on Museveni Nomination Day

Police in the Ugandan capital Kampala has arrested up to 21 suspected criminals who wore ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) t-shirts to beat up and rob people on the streets on Museveni nomination day.

Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) spokesperson Patrick Onyango said the suspects included two females.

“Police in Kampala have arrested 21 suspects, including two females, in connection with a string of robberies and assaults that occurred on June 28, 2025, around 2:00 pm, along the National Theatre and UBC roundabout area,” said Onyango.

“The suspects, disguised in yellow T-shirts, targeted people heading to Kyadondo to witness the nomination of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, as well as motorists, businesspeople, and pedestrians.”

Onyango revealed that police used CCTV footage to track the suspects who have since been detained at the Kampala Central Police Station (CPS) and in Wandegeya.

The suspects are expected in court in coming days, according to Onyango. More arrests are expected in coming days.

“Using CCTV footage, police tracked and intercepted the suspects in various areas. The arrested individuals are currently being held at CPS Kampala and Wandegeya Police Station. Victims have recorded statements, and the case file is being prepared for court,” the KMP spokesperson continued.

“Police are investigating cases of simple robberies and assault. Police are reviewing CCTV footage to identify suspects involved in additional incidents. One suspect was injured while trying to flee and is receiving treatment. Police urge anyone who was victimized but hasn’t reported to the police to come forward immediately.”

Meanwhile, Museveni has explained why he wants another term. (See Details Here).
