Uganda Airlines CEO Jennifer Bamuturaki and other top officials at the national carrier earn salaries that ordinary public servants could refer to as very huge. With Shs 87 Million Monthly Salary for Uganda Airlines CEO Bamuturaki atop the salary structure, officials earn way above many civil servants.
The salaries for Uganda Airlines officials came under scrutiny in 2022. Then, Uganda Airlines CEO Bamuturaki was under investigation over her qualification and how she was appointed the top official at the national carrier.
Shocking revelations were made before MPs led by chairperson of the Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (Cosase) – now leader of opposition in Parliament – Joel Ssenyonyi, the Nakawa West MP and main opposition National Unity Platform (NUP).
Uganda Airlines did not have a formal salary structure, streamlining who should earn how much and why (based on qualifications), as well as which employees were needed and which ones were not, prompting Cosase to direct that a salary structure be put in place.
The committee learnt that while Uganda Airlines had continuously made losses, according reports by the Auditor General, CEO Bamuturaki was earning up to Shs 87 million every month – which salary she claimed was a figure drawn from the business implementation plan approved by cabinet in 2016.
Cornwell Muleya, her predecessor, was said to be earning Shs 126 million every month. The Director for Maintenance earns Shs 80 million every month, followed by the Chief Finance Officer whose monthly salary is Shs 73 million.
The monthly salary of the Manager for Finance is Shs 58 million while pilots earn between Shs 50 million and Shs 60 million. The Human Resource Manager earns Shs 43 million every month – and so does the Manager for quality assurance – while the IT Manager gets Shs 36 million in the same period.
The salary of the Manager in charge of cargo gets Shs 14 million every month. It should be remembered that Uganda Airlines CEO Jennifer Bamuturaki confessed that she never applied for the job but Museveni gave it to her. The president also defended her, as reported Here and There.
