Top FDC Bosses Respond to Bobi Wine, NUP Refusal to Joint Besigye’s PFT Red Card Front

Two top leaders of opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) leaders, president Patrick Oboi Amuriat (POA) and vice president Erias Lukwago have spoken out on singer-turned politician Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine and his NUP’s refusal to join opposition kingpin Dr Kizza Besigye’s People’s Front for Transition (PFT).

On October 07, a section of opposition parties unveiled Besigye, a four-time presidential candidate, as the chairperson of the PFT Twetaase Red Card Front, at the offices of Asuman Basalirwa’s Jeema party.

Like was the case with the 2016’s People’s Government (PG), Kampala lord mayor Lukwago is Besigye’s deputy.

But Bobi Wine and his NUP refused to be part of PFT Red Card Front Twetaase.

Now, Lukwago and Amuriat, the topmost leaders of FDC have urged NUP to join the Red Card Front if they are serious about removing Museveni from power before 2026.

Amuriat reminded Bobi Wine that elections can’t oust Museveni, and that PFT was not a struggle for offices.

“AS FDC, we have been through thick and thin in this struggle. It is clear elections alone can’t remove dictator from power,” said Amuriat, who was also a candidate in the 2021 presidential election.

“Even the most optimistic comrades [NUP] who said the dictator could just be run over after 2021 can attest to it this can’t be done in an election.”

“This is not about positions, titles or who leads us but what we together contribute to bring to reality the struggle. We want to speak to NUP that if they would like to cause difference, this is time to come together.”

Amuriat added: “We need to come and speak with one voice so that we spear the animal first and then see how to share it. Those outside of this formation are invited to be part so that struggle continues.”

Lukwago emphasized Amuriat’s submission.

“[The Red Card Front] is not an electoral alliance but it is well thought out and intended for a purpose,” said the deputy FDC president.

“It is about Uganda and people coming together for a common cause. We are not focusing on any election cycle but liberating our country.”
