Thomas Tayebwa Addresses Allegations of Using Tax Payers’ Money to Fly Family to Watch Man-U Game

Tayebwa Previously Said He Can't Apologize for Being Happy

When he shared photos of himself, his son and wife with Manchester United (Man-U) great Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford, Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa Bangirana must have certainly expected some Ugandans to complain that he was using taxpayers’ money for travel and enjoyment abroad.

On Sunday, Man-U hammered Everton 4-0 in new manager Ruben Amorim’s first home game since taking over from Ruud Van Nistelrooy who had been holding fort following Erik ten Hag’s sacking over poor performance.

As expected, some Ugandans claimed that Thomas Tayebwa had spent public funds on the trip. “I hope this trip benefited Uganda and Ugandans otherwise the tax payer’s money could be just burning,” wrote a one Kenneth Kazoora Jr.

In response, Thomas Tayebwa, also the Ruhinda North (Mitooma District – NRM) MP claimed that the money was proceeds from their labour and savings as a family, and that it was not from the government of Uganda.

“No taxpayer money involved here, my brother. We work as a family, and once in a while, we have family time using our personal resources,” Tayebwa responded.

As has always been the case whenever allegations have come up, some of his supporters defended him saying he was a rich man who can afford a family trip to Old Trafford – with or without being an MP or even deputy speaker of Parliament of Uganda.

But Kenneth Kazoora Jr. insisted that he would not be convinced until he sees photos of Thomas Tayebwa and his family members on a trip to watch a Manchester United game before the youthful politician became MP and deputy speaker.

“The only way you and him can convince me beyond reasonable doubt is to post his pictures at Old Trafford before he went to Parliament. I will apologize and erase my post instantly,” he dared Tayebwa and his defenders.

Thomas Tayebwa has previously said he cannot apologize for being rich and happy after Ugandans complained about his expensive watch estimated at about Shs70m, as reported (Here).

He also revealed how he, in a short time, collected billions of money to build a mega church in his constituency, as we reported Here.

From selling pancakes as a school pupil, Thomas Tayebwa says he employs hundreds of people in a number of businesses his family runs, as reported Here.
