On Saturday, May 17, 2025, angry locals of Nchune A Cell in Kashare Sub County of Mbarara District in Western Uganda protested a decision by a local businessman to block their community access road.
The businessman has been identified Naboth Tayebwa who is being accused of preventing locals from using the access road that connects Nchune A to Akasheenyi.
It is said that there has been a conflict on the ownership of the land in which the Nchune A–Akasheenyi Road snakes through.
Local authorities are also accused of failing of resolve the dispute over the land, letting the conflict drag on for about 10 years.
In these 10 years of the land dispute, locals say they have been subjected to threats the well connected businessman.
In some cases, the locals further alleged, some people who have tried to fight for the access road have faced acts of violence.
Others, the locals further claimed, were intimidated, and, fearing for their lives, reportedly backed down and let Tayebwa be.
It was based on these allegations and the anger over the closure of the community access road that locals stormed Rubindi Police Station to demand that officers of the law and order agencies rein in businessman Naboth Tayebwa.
