Tension as Angry Ex-Museveni Minister Pulls Out Gun, Threatens to Shoot NRM Cadres

There was tension and panic as a former minister in President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s government attempted to shoot at ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) cadres. 

The former minister is said to have clashed with an NRM group that has in recent months been seeking attention and has been steadily becoming popular because of its controversial proposals, including a call for proposed amendments on the mode of voting the president.

The group, whose members like to call themselves Transformers Cadres Association Uganda (TCAU) is accusing former State Minister for Economic Monitoring in the Office of the President, Henry Banyenzaki, of attempting to shoot at them.

TCAU, whose leader is Felix Adupa Ongwech, say that when Banyenzaki, who is also the former Rubanda West MP, was told that his alleged presidential bid would not be supported by the association of NRM 2020 primary losers, he became furious and threatened to shoot members.

The association bosses have now called on Museveni and security agencies to rein in Banyenzaki, saying he is armed and dangerous, and could kill their members over disagreements.

“[On May 28], at Wandegeya Police Station, he pulled out a gun and pointed it at our members. You relevant authority, do you want your man to first kill someone, we parliamentary aspirant losers of 2020 NRM primaries, what does he want from us?” TCAU said in a statement.
