The father of Maclean Amanya, a Ugandan human resource practitioner, has revealed that her son-in-law, a powerful ruling NRM official, beat up his daughter and hid her for months.
Amanya, 42, was a Human Resource Officer for Ibanda Municipality. She was pronounced dead at Kampala International University Hospital in Ishaka on April 05, 2025 after battling for her life.
Her death has widely been blamed on brutal acts of domestic violence reportedly meted on Amanya by her husband Innocent Amwiine.
Amwiine was the National Resistance Movement (NRM) registrar for Ibanda District.
He reportedly beat up Amanya for reportedly cheating on him but the claims of infidelity were not proven, according to family sources.
According to the deceased’s father, Kapere Ruranga, his daughter succumbed to severe beating by her husband.
Ruranga claims that Amwiine had hidden his daughter for months instead of getting her medical treatment after badly beating her.
“My daughter was severely beaten by her husband in September last year and kept hidden till December 2024 when I came to learn about her critical condition,” Ruranga narrated.
“I forcefully picked her from there and rushed her to the Hospital where scanning was made and found that my daughter’s brain got damaged during the beating and the spinal cord” father tearfully expresses.
He also noted that even when Amanya was taken to the hospital, her husband had never bothered to check on her.
As she was about to breathe her last, Amanya requested to be buried at her father’s home not at the home of her husband whom she accused of torturing her.
Amanya’s body was laid to rest at in Kyamurari Bugongi Town Council Sheema District.
