General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defense Forces, has set July 7 as the deadline for young National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters to surrender to the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) or face the strong wrath of his forces.
Posting on his X account, formerly Twitter, the army commander gave NUP supporters an ultimatum to join the PLU for rehabilitation or face trouble.
“I am giving up to July 7 for all young boys and young men in NUP to surrender to PLU! Report to either Minister Balaam or Hon Kabanda. We shall welcome you and rehabilitate you. That is your amnesty from us,” wrote Muhoozi.
He warned that after the deadline, NUP would be labeled part of a rebellion, and security forces will be allowed to beat up any Ugandan found clothed in red attire (mostly worn by NUP supporters).
“After July 7th, NUP will be designated a rebellion and security forces are allowed to kill anybody in NUP uniform,” he wrote.
He further took a swipe at former army commanders, dubbing them “very weak” leaders who betrayed the army.
“In the past, we had very weak CDFs!! They betrayed our glorious military! That is not me! I will beat NUP into a pulp if they touch a single—that is, one—NRM supporter,” he tweeted.
He ordered the security forces to increase their suppression on NUP members, warning that officers who fail to use force would be dismissed.
“Police men who do not beat up NUP will be sent home! All of them, whatever the rank,” he further wrote.
Muhoozi Commended the Joint Anti-Terrorism Taskforce (JAT) for doing a good job against NUP supporters but claimed they were not being tough enough.
“JATT is doing a great job! But they are not beating criminals enough. Anyone found in a red uniform should learn to fear JATT,” he added.
The general’s posts came after security forces violently beat up NUP supporters and Journalists in the ongoing Kawempe North by-election campaigns.
